Hanko Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit foundation created in memory of Joseph R. Hanko in November 2000. While working close to thirty years in the Margate School System, first as a teacher and coach and later as a principal, Mr. Hanko dedicated himself to providing the children of the Margate Schools with a quality educational program.
It is therefore the goal of our foundation to continue Mr. Hanko's legacy by granting scholarships to high school seniors that attended the Margate City School District and will be continuing on to higher education. Applicants are judged on a wide range of criteria that includes academic achievement, community involvement, extra-curricular participation, and employment history.
In 2010 we expanded our vision to include and support educational needs both nationally and internationally, We held our first annual Art Auction. Our emphasis being art produced by our students to help other students. The goal is to further encourage education and assist in improving education while including the community and students of Margate Schools in our charitable endeavors.
To date, our foundation has granted $195,000 in scholarships to outstanding students as well as grants to further enhance education. This supported by the generous contributions of many individuals and businesses throughout our community, we hope to continue our mission for many years to come.
